I visited with Allyson Moskowitz from the Bethany Center late last week and she gave me a tour of their wonderful facility. The Bethany Center provides counseling for children who have lost a loved one. They have several activity areas suited for different age groups. Rooms full of art supplies for the children to express themselves. A room with games from foosball to air-hockey tables to a punch dummy for the more aggressive to release frustration. I couldn’t enter the last room Allyson showed me. She opened the door and flipped on the switch which illuminated the room in black-light. The walls were lined with acrylic panels drawn on by the children in glow-in-the-dark markers. The glowing drawings were messages from the children to their lost loved one. I glanced at a few inscriptions from outside the door and could not go further into the room. Children speak from the heart. It was very difficult for me to read just the few I quickly saw. But I could tell it was very good for the children to write on the walls and leave these messages. It is an emotionally charged room. It's called "The Grief Cave."
Here I am with Allyson just after I gave her the checks totaling $740. Thank you everyone for your generosity.
I watched my son grow and discover the miracle of magnets and flashlights. He loved butterflies, birds and bunnies though he never concerned himself with their proper names. It didn’t matter to him that they were given names to be identified by us, he knew them only as miracles. I watched him grow and learn to forge metal with a hammer and cast a fly with the grace of a swallow. He is my boy and he is now my Angel. I long to see him again.
The end of an era....
"Some people hear their inner voices with great clearness...
And they live by what they hear. Such people become crazy... or they become Legend."
